When someone you love with all your heart and with whom you’ve shared everything you are breaks your heart, irreparably, it should kill you instantly. You shouldn't have to wake up day after day after that...

Yes, it is surprising.
But the term "broken heart" is too kind. "Shattered", "Mutilated", "Mangled" seems more appropriate.
Broken implies that it can be an easy fix---and that ain't true!
